Currently, the Opp PD has taken one person into acustody in association with these crimes, McDonald said.

“There are others still out there that are associated with these thefts,” he said.

McDonald made the following suggestions to help curb the criminal activity:

• Remove the ignition key from lawnmowers, golf carts and quads.

• Lock the lawnmower, golf cart, quad in a structure or secure it with a chain and lock it to a fixed object.

• If you own a utility trailer or a boat trailer, place a pad lock through the tongue of the trailer and secure to pad lock.

• Be a good neighbor. Watch your neighbor’s property. If you observe suspicious activity, immediately contact law enforcement by call 911 or the Opp Police Department at 334-493-4511.

McDonald said if you have information on anyone who is involved in these thefts or you know where stolen property is located, please contact the OPD.
