Straughn schools sustained significant damage when a storm system moved through the area two weeks ago.
Covington County Superintendent Shannon Driver said McKee and Associates architects is putting together a scope of work for the system’s insurance adjustor.
“There is a significant amount of damage on the roof system,” Driver said. “Some of it you can’t see until you get up there.”
Driver to board members Tuesday night the repair issue is complicated because the manufacturer requires the roof to be repaired to its specs, or the warranty becomes null.
“We’ve got 15 years left on our 25-year warranty,” Driver said.
Driver said a whole section of the library roof has to be replaced. Damage to the ag shop, to covered walkways, and other structures had been cleaned up or repaired, he said, to avoid possible safety issues.
The board also:
• Adopted policies for allergy management, service animals and homebound and hospital instruction.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Linda Kay Mathews as elementary teacher at Red Level, effective April 1.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Carol Lynn Merritt as bus driver at Ted Level, effective June 1.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Brent Zessin, effective June 30.
