Rain kept the Andalusia Bulldogs and the Headland Rams off the diamond on Thursday night, but the Bulldogs pushed past the No. 8-ranked Rams 2-1 Wednesday night in Headland.

“That was the best complete game we have played all year,” Andalusia head coach Tyler Dent said. “You know, anytime you can start off the area with a win that’s a good thing. We still have get back out there and take care of business two more time against them on Monday.”

The Bulldogs got a big night on the mound from their left-handed sophomore, Ethan Wilson, who spun a gem on the way to picking up the victory.

“Ethan pitched a heck of game,” Dent said. “That was a big win for us. Headland has a very good team. Coach Nolan does a great job with them and they are solid at every position.”

Andalusia jumped out front win Garrett Davis picked up a double and Wilson followed with a double of his own to put the Bulldogs on top 1-0.

Wilson later came around to on a routine pop up that was dropped by the Rams’ shortstop.

The defense behind Wilson also made big plays to help earn the Bulldogs the victory.

“We played really well on defense and we were putting the ball in play on two-strike counts,” Dent said.

Wilson picked up the win with a complete-game performance while striking out nine.

Andalusia and Headland makeup Thursday’s game Monday. A time for the makeup game has not been set.
