Airport board authority members are awaiting word from the entities on whether to continue a broker agreement with Ronnie Kearns.

At Tuesday’s airport board meeting, Co-Director Jed Blackwell recommended to the board to renew a broker agreement with Kearns for a two-year period.

Blackwell said he and board attorney Anne Sumblin worked together on the broker agreement.

Blackwell said the agreement is for Kearns to continue working with Covington County Economic Development President Rick Clifton on marketing and bringing industry to the twin hangars.

Over the last year, Kearns has brought business to the twin hangars through his own business Kearns Group LLC.

Through the broker agreement, Kearns gets 3 percent commission for any company that comes to the twin hangars – even his businesses.

The renewal period will be from March 22, 2016 to March 22, 2018.

The only stipulation that board members wished to put in their was that this would not include if Vector wished to lease the space.

Clifton was pleased.

“I’m convinced that Ronnie is doing all he can to rent it,” Clifton said. “He’s out at all the shows.”

The board approved the agreement, but per its agreement with the cities of Andalusia and Opp and the County Commission, the two mayors and commission chairman must also agree.

Blackwell said that Kearns also has a May 1 departure date for the latest C-130 he is working on.
