The Straughn Band Program recently traveled to Enterprise High School to perform at the District VIII Music Performance Assessment (MPA). The band received all superior ratings with their performance on stage and an excellent rating in the sight-reading room.

“This is our version of a state assessment,” SHS director of bands Will Parker said. “The ensemble performs for a panel of judges and receives a score based off the performance. This is the first time in 12 years that the band program has received a superior rating at MPA.

“These scores show that we are doing the correct things and that the program is striving for the highest in all that we do,” he said. “I am very appreciative of the administration and parents for their continued support of the Straughn Band Program.”

Parker said he would also like to thank Ms. Catie Stephens, Mr. Demetrius Scott, Ms. Callie Henderson, Mr. Dillon Worley, and Mr. Johnny Brewer for working with the group in preparation for this assessment.
