More than 200 people are expected to turn out for the first every Gantt Mafia spring benefit ride tomorrow.
John Zorn of the organization said since the organization’s inception, they have tried to be involved in a lot of things in Covington County.
“Last September, we held a poker run for the Shriner’s transportation,” he said. “In October and in November, we held Turkey Shoots for Gordie Cartwright, who has leukemia.”
Zorn said they are simply a riding club.
“All we want to do is ride and put on fundraisers,” he said. “We are going to make this an annual project.”
Tomorrow’s event will benefit Wounded Warriors.
“It’s been publicized here lately that there are some things that have been going on that aren’t real good for soldiers,” Zorn said. “This is our way of helping wounded vets and vets in general.”
Zorn said they expect at least 100 bikes.
“I’ve been telling everyone you don’t have to ride,” he said. “Just come to Cypress Landing between 4 and 4:30.”
Zorn said they will have barbecue plates and the Carroll Williams Band will play.
The benefit ride will have five stops, with one being a lunch stop starting in Gantt, then to Opp, Red Level and back to Cypress Landing, where there will be raffle drawing and an auction.
“We have had a real good response from our local businesses,” he said. “We will recognize them at the event.”
Sign up starts at 8 a.m. tomorrow and Kickstands are up at 11 a.m.
Cost is $20 per bike and $5 for an extra rider. That includes a T-shirt and other goodies for the first 50 riders.
Cypress Landing RV Park is located on Hwy 29 North about five miles north of Gantt on the right.
