Alabama State Troopers along with other area emergency personnel responded to a crash just north of Gantt Friday morning.

Trooper Spokesperson Kevin Cook said that the crash occurred at 10:20 a.m. Friday in Gantt City Limits at the 55.5 mile marker.

Gantt Fire Chief Scott Fight said that his department responded to the wreck from their new station on Pier 7 Road.

Fight said that one vehicle was passing another vehicle when the incident occurred.

“The driver said two cars were going slow in front of him,” Fight said. “He pulled out and passed and when he got up behind the other car, the other driver decided he also wanted to pass.”

Fight said the driver of the vehicle turned out to the left and sent the vehicle out over some stumps on the roadside where it flipped.

“There was a man and woman in the vehicle,” he said. “They only had minor injuries.”

Cook said that Russell A. Palmer, 58, of Luverne was driving a 1981 Ford that struck a 2009 Nissan Titan by 59-year-old Thomas Bush of Dozier.

Bush was not injured.

Palmer and a passenger in his vehicle was transported to Andalusia Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Fight said they were able to roll from the station within a minute.
