The west side sidewalk project is off to a good start,

Engineer Jeremy McMath of Civil Southeast Engineering reported to the Andalusia City Council Tuesday that the Dunson Street and Snowden Street portions of the project were completed on Tuesday.

“They’ll do the part that is on Church Street next, then go over to Prestwood Bridge Road,” McMath said, adding that Alabama Road Contracting Services will begin the expansion at the bypass end of Prestwood Bridge Road and “go until the money runs out.”

The project was designed to extend a sidewalk to Cedar Drive, with an alternative bid to extend to Rosewood Lane.

The city received a grant through the Alabama Department of Transportation for the approximately $400,000 project.

Meanwhile, Civil Southeast also is designing a sidewalk project on the opposite side of town, extending sidewalks down Stanley Avenue to Feagan, and down Lindsey Bridge Road. Those plans are expected to be finalized by the Alabama Department of Transportation this summer.
