If you have a child who loves trucks or are simply looking for some family fun, stop by Straughn Elementary’s Touch a Truck event on Saturday.
Organizer Sandra Rohling said that there will be an estimated 21 trucks.
Rohling said Rose Hill Fire Department is bringing fire trucks.
Advanced EMS and Gantt Fire and Rescue are bringing ambulances; Covington Electric Cooperative will have a bucket truck. The County’s road department is expected to bring a dump truck and back hoe.
There will be a trash truck and a UPS truck.
The sheriff’s department will also bring two different cars and Massey Automotive will have some vehicles on hand.
“Boggs and Boulders has a train,” Rohling said. “We will have free train rides.”
Rohling said this a fundraiser for the Straughn Elementary School PTO.
“There will be all different types of trucks there,” she said. “Children will have the opportunity to sit in the different trucks. They will be able to play with sirens, have their pictures taken and there will concessions. It will be a fun event and something different.”
Rohling said that she knows her children don’t get to experience the different trucks every day.
“This will give them the opportunity to see these trucks that help us on a day-to-day basis,” he said.
Rohling said that the money raised will go into the PTO’s account.
“We help with various different things,” she said. “We buy folder and a lot of other different things. We helped with the gifted program by sending them on a trip in the fall. The PTO helps with different awards ceremonies. We will help provide the trophies or certificates. We will also provide other things that Mrs. (Bettye Anne) Older might need our help with.”
The event will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon in the SES parking lot.
Admission is $5 per person, with a $15 maximum per family. Kids 2 and under get in free.
There will be popcorn, tattoos, cotton candy and drinks.
