Tickets are on sale for the annual Communities Caring 2016 event.
The event, which is held annually, helps raise funds for South Central Alabama Mental Health.
Staci Wilson of SCAMH said that last year , 721 Alabamians died by suicide.
“Statistically, that is one person every 12 hours and suicide is almost always as a result of untreated or undertreated mental illness,” she said. “Yet, each year our organization continue to face more budget cuts to more services.”
Wilson said that financial support is extremely important to the organization and it relies on donations to continue to provide mental health services in the community.
This year’s fundraiser aims to raise $25,000 that will be used to help continue providing mental health services in the community.
“Year after year, our event attracts more attendees but we still depend on the added support of our friends in the business community,” she said.
The largest fundraiser of the year – Communities Caring 2016 – is slated for April 30, at 5:30 p.m., at the Kiwanis Community Center.
This year’s theme is a Southern Shindig.
This year’s event will feature Men of Cornerstone Quartet from Newnan, Ga.
Menu for the night will be fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, fried okra and a biscuit bar.
An auction will be held, as well.
“We have Disney World Park Hopper passes,” she said. “We have a beach condo for a week.”
Wilson said donations are low this year and they are still needed.
Tickets are $15 each or two for $25.
Credit or debit cards are accepted over the phone.
