In honor of National Library Week, Andalusia High School media specialist Charlotte Spurlin held a tea in the high school library on Thursday morning for past and present librarians in the Andalusia City School system.

“We just wanted to do something to honor all of the librarians in our school system, past and present,” Spurlin said.

Spurlin said that over the month of April students have been asked to take “shelfies” of themselves to hang around the library.

“shelfies are taking a picture of oneself by oneself with their favorite book,” Charlotte Spurlin said.

These “shelfies” were hung around the front desk of the library for the other librarians to see.

Also for Librarian Appreciation Month, Spurlin had students write what they enjoyed most about the library.

“We got some pretty good responses from the students with those,” Spurlin said. “My favorites are the ones saying that we have the best librarian.”

Three former Andalusia City School librarians attended the event and enjoyed coming back to the school.

“It’s nice to be remembered,” Babs Mikel said. “I also enjoyed coming back and seeing how things are going now.”

Former teacher and librarian Amy Spurlin also enjoyed coming back for the event.

“I loved it,” Amy Spurlin said. “I appreciate the opportunity to come back, and I especially loved to see the students so engaged. I’m very impressed with the progress being made and the pleasant atmosphere of the library.”
