5 things you should know today

There’s plenty to do in Andalusia today with many family-friendly events available beginning at 8 a.m.

 

• Today’s 50th anniversary celebration at Andalusia Regional Hospital begins with a 5K at 8 a.m. At 9:30, the hospital will dedicate its new Legacy of Caring garden.

There also will be entertainment, refreshment and door prizes, with a number of health-related vendors providing information.

 

• The 45th annual Coterie Club of Andalusia Storybook Festival, “A Magical Menagerie,” will be Saturday.

Gates will open at 9 a.m.

The event is free to the public and will be held at Springdale Estate.

Additional items and concessions will be available for purchase.

 

• The Straughn PTO Touch A Truck event will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon in the SES parking lot.

Admission is $5 per person, with a $15 maximum per family. Kids 2 and under get in free.

There will be popcorn, tattoos, cotton candy and drinks.

 

• The Andalusia Lions Club will hold its spring Care, Give and Lions Recycle for Sight event today from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Tables will be located at Marvin’s and Tractor Supply.

During the event members will:

–Collect old and or used eyeglasses;

–Accept donations for the Covington County Child Advocacy Center; and

— Sell brooms and mops to promote its local eyesight conservation program.

• The women of First Baptist Church will host the annual Mad Hat Tea at 2 p.m.
