The Andalusia Bulldogs’ soccer team secured the regular season area championship with victories this weekend over UMS-Wright and Satsuma.

ANDALUSIA 2,

UMS-WRIGHT 1

Friday night at home the Andalusia Bulldogs picked up a late penalty kick to defeat the UMS-Wright Bulldogs 2-1.

“We didn’t play as well as we should have,” Bulldogs’ head coach Tim Ramsden said. “Each time we played them, that has been how we have played. Started off flat and soft and really played that way the whole game.”

Andalusia fell behind to 1-0 to start the contest, but the home squad stepped up on defense after that.

“Really, we didn’t let them have many chances at the goal,” Ramsden said. “We had plenty of chances, but they also played well on defense. We just didn’t seem to be clicking, but we you play bad and still beat a team like UMS, that’s a good thing.”

An own goal by UMS-Wright tied the game 1-1 near the end of the game.

Andalusia got the winning goal when Kiki Wain drilled a penalty kick to put them on top 2-1.

ANDALUSIA 6,

SATSUMA 0

On the Saturday afternoon, the Bulldogs made it 5-0 in area play and clinched the area title with a 6-0 victory over Satsuma in Andalusia.

“Once again we came out flat out soft,” Ramsden said. “I was disappointed in how we played Saturday. We should have beaten them 10-0 again. We were flat, but we did have a big game the night before. I would have expected more out of the players though.”

Andalusia will finish off area play tonight at 6 p.m., at home against Thomasville.

“They are good team, and they will be up for this game,” Ramsden said. “They don’t have anything to lose or win really, but they will still want to be able to say the beat the area champs.”

Andalusia will host a first round playoff match on April 30 at Andalusia High School.
