Like to go to yard sales and rummage sales?
Starting Friday, you have the opportunity to do so while helping the Gantt Area Fire and Rescue.
Joann Stanley of the department said the rummage sale proceeds will go to help them keep their new station on Pier 7 Road operational.
“It’s so important for us to have this second station,” she said. “Before, it could take up to 20 minutes for us to get to the scene of a fire, and  by then it’s too late.”
With one station in downtown Gantt and the other on Pier 7 Road, the response times have been about five minutes.
The department has the second largest service area in the county and the majority of its calls are located in the northern part of its territory.
Its service area covers from the northern county line, down Bush Isle Road, to Dunns Bridge Road and Oakey Streak.
Stanley said that the rummage sale will be held at the Pier 7 Station. Pier 7 Road is located on Hwy. 29 North.
“We have household items from very good to new condition,” she said.
Items include:
• Furniture;
• Knick Knacks;
• Bedding;
• Kitchen appliances;
• Dishware;
• Games;
• Books;
• Electronics
Additionally, hot dogs and hamburgers will be served.
Staley said the sale will be April 29 – May 1, from 8 a.m. until each day.
“If we have anything left over, we may have it the following weekend, as well,” she said.
