Lady Bulldogs fight hard, fall to Headland

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs took an early lead over Headland in the opening game of the Class 4A, Area 2 softball tournament in Headland, but the Lady Rams rallied for a 6-1 victory.

In the top of the first inning, Olivia Amerson reached on single and then moved up to second on a two-out single from Merikal McCaskill.

Amerson then came around to score to give the Lady Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead.

Sydney Ray worked around a walk an error in the bottom of the first to keep the score 1-0.

Headland got another runner in the bottom of the second off an error, but Ray picked up a strikeout and line out to end the inning.

Amerson reached on two-out single in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t push her across the plate.

Ray worked a strong third inning in the pitching circle for the Lady Bulldogs as she sat down the Lady Rams in order.

McCaskill picked up an infield single to start the top of the fourth inning, but she was left stranded at third after three consecutive ground balls.

An error an walk got Headland going in the bottom of the fourth inning, and then a two-out single put the Lady Rams on top 2-1.

The Lady Rams added one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-1 win.

Amerson finished the opening game 3-for-3 with one run scored for the Lady Bulldogs.

McCaskill finished the game 2-for-3.

Ray had the only other hit for the Lady Bulldogs.
