The cooks at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church have a reputation for cooking up good food, and have decided to add a new event to their menu.
The group is planning The Maine Event, a lobster dinner, fro Fri., May 13, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
“This used to be a fundraiser for Wilmer Hall,” organizer Terry Kyzar said, referring to the children’s home supported by the Episcopal Diocese of the Gulf Coast. “The diocese doesn’t do that anymore, and we were looking for something to take the place of Pumpkin Patch. So I just thought it would be fun.”
Kyzar said the lobsters will be delivered live from Joe Patti’s seafood market in Pensacola.
“We’ll steam them here,” he said. “Sister (Barnes) is preparing cheese grits, and we’ll have a salad and dessert to go with it.
“It will be a lot of fun, and tasty, too,” Kyzar said.
Tickets, which are $30, must be purchased in advance. They are onsale at St. Mary’s church office (334-22-2487) or at The Star-News, located on Dunson Street.
St. Mary’s also hosts a Bayou Feast each August, helps coordinate holiday meals for those in need at Christmas and Thanksgiving and serves breakfast each month to clients of its Rice and Beans outreach ministry.
