The Covington County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors a third grade poster contest every year; this year’s theme was “We All Need Trees.” Smokey Bear greeted the guests, Mr. Dale Pancake gave a program on native trees of Alabama, and county-wide poster contest winners were announced: First place, Melody Moore of Red Level Elementary; second place, Bradleigh Lanier, of Opp Elementary; and third place, Haylee Booth, also from Opp Elementary. Additionally Envirothon teams from Pleasant Home and Straughn High Schools were acknowledged. Melody’s poster will move forward to district level competition.
