Opp evaluating their sports programs

Rumors have swirled since late last week that Opp High School baseball coach Michael Cassady had been fired.
But that’s not the case at this time, according to Opp City Schools Superintendent Michael Smithart.
“We are currently in the process of evaluation of our program, just as we do at the end of every sports season,” he said. “We evaluate every aspect of a program. We look at successes and not areas in which we feel we can improve. That is what we are doing right now. There have been no coaching changes and at this point there are no recommendations in front of the board.”
Cassady has been the head coach for seven seasons.
He has compiled a record of 146-69 during that time.
Cassady also serves as an assistant football coach and was selected among his peers at the 2011 Class 3A assistant coach of the year by the Alabama Football Coaches Association.
