SHS’s Evers retiring

Straughn High School principal John Allen Evers will retire, effective July of 2016.

His retirement resignation was among the numerous personnel changes approved during Monday night’s Covington County Board of Education meeting. The board:

• transferred Leah Wilks Grimes, at her request, from reading coach at Red Level Elementary School to elementary school teacher at Straughn Elementary School effective at the beginning of the school year.

• transferred Connie Womble Karthaus, at her request, from reading coach at Pleasant Home School to part-time reading coach at Pleasant Home School and part-time reading coach at Red Level Elementary School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• hired Kristie Marie Pinckard as elementary school teacher at Red Level Elementary School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• hired Kerry Bennett Alexander as elementary school teacher at Red Level Elementary School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• accepted the resignation of Clay Landon Smith as secondary social science teacher at Red Level High School effective at the end of the school year;

• transferred Todd Wayne Smith at his request from secondary social science teacher at Pleasant Home School to secondary social science teacher at Red Level High School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• hired Melissa Pittman Nall as counselor at Red Level High School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• hired Joshua Tyler Ingram, as bus driver at Red Level High School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• accepted the retirement resignation of Jill D. Maddox as elementary school teacher at Straughn Elementary School effective June 1, 2016;

• hired Kimberly Moore as elementary school teacher at Straughn Elementary School effective at the beginning of the school year;

• accepted the retirement resignation of Suane S. Evans as elementary school teacher at W.S. Harlan Elementary School effective June 1, 2016.

• non-renewed Lisa Aplin Smithson’s contract, as an English language arts teacher and library media specialist at Fleeta Junior High School, effective at the end of the school year;

In other business, the board:

• approved continuing participation in the state food purchasing program;

• approved a bid for bread;

• approved the extension of the 2015 ice cream bid contract with Bedsole Ice Cream of Cowarts for an additional year to begin Aug. 1, 2016 through July 31, 2017.

• approved to extend the 2015 milk bid contract with Borden Dairy of Cowarts for an additional year to begin Aug. 1, 2016 through July 31, 2017.

• approved the purchase of five new buses based on April 27, 2015 bid price of $75,104.01 each from Southland International Bus Sales, Birmingham.
