Andalusia Isshinryu students grab top finishes

Members of the Andalusia Isshinryu Karate traveled to Rogersville, Tenn., recently to compete in the IIKA Kelley’s Heroes Classic Karate Tournament.
The four Andalusia members competed in weapons, kata and fighting divisions for their age group and belt rank.
They also competed in the team kata competition for their age catergory.
Brown belt Landon Caldwell led the group with all first place finishes. Caldwell won weapons, kata and fighting and won first place in team kata along with teammate Allen Butler.
Caldwell also won his first ever Youth Kata Grand Championship, in which he competed against brown and black belt students.
The Andalusia group of black belts swept the Youth black belt weapons division, Butler taking first, Taj Patel second and Dalton Spears third.
Butler also placed second in youth black belt fighting.
Patel won first place in Youth black belt kata for his age group and placed second in fighting.
Spears placed fourth in youth black belt kata and first place in fighting.
Spears and Patel teamed up to win first place in their age group in team kata.
