Welfare check nets pot arrest

On Tuesday, Opp Police Department B Shift units and investigators went to a residence on Lillie Street to conduct a welfare check on a female occupant.

0513-potOPD investigators detected the odor of green marijuana at the residence and contacted the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force agents. DTF agents secured a search warrant and 10 marijuana plants were located and seized from the yard of the residence.

Scott Andrews Thomas, 42, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana first degree and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was remanded to the Covington County Jail where he posted a $65,000 bond and was released.
