Thanks to media outlets spreading the word, a Crestview man has been reunited with his father’s ashes and flag.

Florala Police Chief Sonny Bedsole said Wednesday that a man, who had recently moved from Lockhart during a rancorous divorce, claimed the valuables.

Bedsole spread the word in mid-April that a small box had been found by utility workers.

“He had some friends notify him,” Bedsole said. “They saw the pictures on a national news outlet.”

Bedsole said the man, whom he didn’t identify, looked at it and knew it should be his.

“Apparently his ex set the ashes out,” he said. “He picked them up late yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.”

Bedsole said the man described everything to the letter.

“We obviously let him have it,” he said.
