Opp Police are investigating a wreck involving a dump truck and an SUV.

Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that police units and Opp Fire Department units responded to a two-vehicle crash around 1 p.m., on Friday at the intersection of Alabama Highway 299 and Alabama Highway 134.

“A Dodge Journey that had two occupants was westbound on Highway 134 approaching the intersection of Alabama Highway 299,” McDonald said. “A loaded Mack dump truck was northbound on Alabama Highway 299 and it was occupied two times.”

McDonald said the operator of the dump truck saw that he was about to run through the red light and made a high speed turn eastbound on State Highway 134 striking the Dodge Journey.

“The dump truck then turned over onto the driver’s side of the vehicle spilling a load of dirt onto the highway,” McDonald said. “Both occupants of the Dodge and one occupant of the dump truck were transported to Mizell Memorial Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.”

McDonald said the OPD closed Alabama Highway 134 between the intersection of Perry Store Road and the intersection of Alabama 299 at 1:05 p.m., and re-opened the road at 2:30 p.m.

The Opp street department cleared the dirt and debris from the road way.

The names have not been released.
