A man is behind bars after he allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and forced her into a wooded area in Red Level.

Covington County Sheriff’s Investigator Howard West said deputies were dispatched to the Red Level Villas around 9:40 a.m.

“It was a domestic situation in which a man took his ex-girlfriend or estranged girlfriend into the woods against her will,” he said. “We called in the K9s from River Falls Police Department and the Covington County Sheriff’s Posse.”

West said the woman was able to run from the suspect, whom he identified at 25-year-old James Harold Morris.

“We were able to detain him off of Thomas Road around 1 p.m.,” West said.

West said River Falls Police Chief and DTF Agent Greg Jackson received injuries to his ribs while helping to detain Morris.

West said he expects the sheriff’s office will charge Morris with kidnapping first and assault III for the incident involving his ex-girlfriend. Other charges are expected.

“He is being held in the Covington County Jail without bond,” West said.

West said the Drug Task Force, the Covington County Incident Response Team and the Dale County Helicopter Unit, and Advanced EMS also assisted in the situation.
