The Andalusia City Council on Tuesday rezoned three parcels of property for planned business developments.
Two parcels north of town on Hwy. 29, including one located across the highway from Shaw and near Power South, were rezoned from M2 (manufacturing) to PBD (planned business developments).
In addition, 27 acres on River Falls Street or Hwy. 84 was rezoned from agricultural to PBD. Mayor Earl Johnson said the property backs up to the golf course of Andalusia Country Club.
In March, the council agreed to give Arbor Pines LP a purchase option on the property it owns adjacent to PowerSouth and across the highway from the Shaw entrance. The city has owned the land for decades. The purchase option would allow the developer to buy the property for approximately $2,000 per acre. Arbor Pines LP hopes to construct “workforce housing,” generally understood to mean affordable housing for households with earned income that is insufficient to secure quality housing in reasonable proximity to the workplace.
