The long-awaited Opp Veterans Pool opened Wednesday.
Pool Manager Josh Thompson said they had a good day.
“We are averaging about 60 people,” he said.
Parents and kids alike were enjoying the new option for recreation in Opp.
“It’s kind of fun,” said Monique Ware. “I’ve never been to a grand opening. It’s not that bad.”
Jasmine Lane was excited.
“It gets you out of the house,” she said.
Friend Tamara McAdams said she was excited to have a place she could hang out and see her friends.
Keitha Besok said she thought the new pool was a good thing.
“I can walk here from my house,” she said.
The new facility includes a competitive pool, with a pool house, concession stand and includes a splash pad.
The cost was more than $400,000 that was mainly funded through donations to the city.
There are also several tables with umbrellas set up around the pool for families to enjoy.
Thompson said the pool is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Admission is $1 per person per day.
