Short, Smith elected to AREA board

Charles “Ed” Short of Andalusia and C. Heflin Smith of Kinston were elected to the Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives’ Board of Directors during the association’s 69th annual meeting in Montgomery.

Short, president, chief executive officer and general manager of Covington Electric Cooperative Inc., will serve on the association’s executive, legislative, and member services committees. Smith will serve on the association’s governance and public relations and strategic planning committees.

AREA’s board also elected Randy Brannon of Pea River Electric Cooperative, Ozark, as chairman; David Hembree of Cullman Electric Cooperative, as vice-chairman; and Daryl Jones of Black Warrior Electric Membership Corporation, Demopolis, as secretary-treasurer.
