Local Tropical Smoothie leading in donations

Andalusia’s Tropical Smoothie is leading the southeast in donations collected for Camp Sunshine, an organization devoted to providing a healthy, happy camping experience for children with life-threatening illnesses, free of charge.

Skip Enzor, owner of the local store, said the store has currently raised $3,300, and has a goal of $5,000.

0615-Tropical-smoothie“We need to raise $1,200 on Friday to meet that goal,” he said. “We will be giving away free Jetty Punch, which is one of our favorites.”

Enzor said it contains strawberries and bananas.

Those who come to Tropical Smoothie will get a free Jetty Punch smoothie if they wear flip flops between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

He said National Flip Flop Day will be full of all kinds of fun.

There will be a bouncy house, slide, Disney characters and live music from some of the LBWCC Ensemble.

Everything will be from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The cost to send a family to a one-week camp is $2,500.

To date, the camp has provided services to 47,000 families.

“National Flip Flop Day is the single most important day of the year to Tropical Smoothie Cafe,” said Jennie Hong, senior director of brand marketing and strategy for the company. “We’re planning for 2016 to be one of our most successful yet in terms of giving back to children in need.”

Hong said they have seen first hand how much Camp Sunshine means to the kids and families who attend.
