Three local churches are teaming up to help out the community with a “Laundry of Love” outreach program at the Soap Opera Laundromat.

Andalusia First United Methodist Church, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and Andalusia First Presbyterian Church joined forces to bring “Laundry of Love” to Andalusia.

“Laundry of Love is national thing,” the Rev. Cindy Howard, rector at St. Mary’s, said. “People come in and we give them money, detergent and dryer sheets for up to three loads of clothes. It’s just a way to help people stretch their budget.”

Howard said the main goal was to help others, but that working with other churches has also be great part of it.

“We wanted a way to help people out,” said. “Also, with three local churches working together, it gives us a chance to get to know each other better. The first goal is to help others, but its very nice working with other churches.”

The churches will be hosting “Laundry of Love” at the Soap Opera Laundromat on the third Thursday of each month from 4-7 p.m.
