Pair jailed for drugs

An Opp pair is behind bars and a child is with family after law enforcement officers found drugs in their home.

Tuesday, the Covington County Incident Response Team assisted the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force at a residence in the 600 block of East Park Avenue with service of a search warrant and the arrest of individuals involved in the distribution of controlled substance – methamphetamine.

“IRT team members made entry into the residence, located and detained one adult male, two adult females and secured a 4-year-old child,” OPD Chief Mike McDonald said. “DTF agents located marijuana and tramadol in the residence.”

Agents arrested Jason Powell, 36, and Tonya Powell, 42, for distribution of a controlled substance and they were held on $150,000 bonds each.

The child was placed with a family member.

McDonald said police also arrested Thomonta Martenez Jones for possession of marijuana II after an A-shift office stopped his vehicle on Thompson Avenue for a traffic violation.

Jones was processed at the OPD and released on bond.
