The Covington County 10U softball All-Stars cruised to an 11-0 victory over Wedowee to clinch the 2016 Babe Ruth 10U softball Alabama state championship on Sunday at the Dwight Mikel Sports Complex.

Ashley Findley again got the start in the pitcher’s circle, and she was in for another dominant performance.

Wedowee opened up the game with a single from their leadoff batter, but Findley didn’t let it faze her as she struck out the next two batters. She then retired the next batter with pop up to first base.

Covington County leadoff hitter and speedster Elizabeth Cross put pressure on the Wedowee defense when she ripped a pitch over the head of the center field for a double.

Kayden Weaver then came up and laid down a picture perfect bunt for a single. On the play, Wedowee made a pair of throwing errors that allowed Cross and Weaver to come in to give Covington County a 2-0 lead.

Meleah Treadway followed a bunt single of her own, and then a pair of wild pitches allowed her to come around to score.

Covington County went on top 4-0 when Hailey Ward drove in Findley on an error.

Ward then came around to score for a 5-0 advantage.

Findley remained focused and steadfast on the mound as she sat the Wedowee batters down on three straight strikeouts in the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the second, Kadin Watson and Cross got things started with back-to-back singles. Weaver then laced a single that scored Watson. Cross and Weaver made the score 8-0 after both scored on wild pitches.

After drawing a walk, Treadway also scored on another wild pitch to go on top 9-0.

Findley reached on error and also scored on wild pitch to put Covington County on top 10-0 after two innings of play.

The Covington County All-Stars added another run in the bottom of the third inning when Cross scored on a fielder’s choice.

Wedowee opened up the top of the fourth with a walk and single off Findley, but once again she shook it off and followed with three-straight strikeouts to give the Covington County 10U All-Stars an 11-0 victory in the Babe Ruth softball Alabama state championship game.
