Syble Grissett Knowles

Mrs. Syble Grissett Knowles, 70, of Andalusia, passed away Fri., June 17, 2016, at her residence.

Funeral services were held Sun., June 19, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was Saturday at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, William Knowles of Andalusia; her daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Rodney Phillips of Andalusia, Barbara and Jeffrey Brown of Calera; two sons and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Angie Grissett, Sr. of Columbus, Ga; and Tommy Grissett, Jr.; her grandchildren, Kristy Crowder, Amber Belew, Lindsay Brown, Tori England, Ashley Linder, Jake Brown, Brittany Williams, Christopher Verbitski, Thomas Glen Grissett, Elissia Moore, Emma Brown, Ski Phillips, Timothy Grissett, Justin Doster, Katie Beth Morris, and Landon Grissett; 10 great-grandchildren, one brother, Junior Howard of River Falls; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Leon Ballard of McKenzie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Grissett; three sisters, and two brothers.

Murry Cecil Bass

Mr. Murry Cecil Bass, 78, of the Carolina community, passed away Mon., June 20, 2016, at the Andalusia Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wed., June 22, 2016, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Carolina Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Tuesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Donna Bass of Andalusia; his daughter, Sherry Danford of Red Level; two grandchildren J-Mack (Lakelyn) Danford and Derrick Bass; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Bass of Milton; and two sisters, Laura Barnett of Andalusia and Juanita Maund of Lake Park, Ga.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Jackson Bass; two brothers, Winston Bass and George Bass; and two sisters, Mildred Abner and Rossie Mann

Mr. James (Jimmy) Maurice Driggers, age 87, of the Babbie Community died Sat., June 18, 2016, at a local hospital.

A funeral service for Mr. Driggers will be conducted 10 a.m. Tues., June 21, at Babbie Baptist Church with Bro. Dwayne Seay and Bro. Bobby Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the Babbie Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Babbie Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mr. Driggers is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggie Sue Driggers; daughters, Sylvia Driggers Nolen, Cathy Dorsey Ayers, Penny Dorsey Viles, Lisa Dorsey Gossman, Sharon Driggers Mallory and Sherry Driggers Harrison; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Driggers and Lois L. Blackwell.

Mr. James LaDon Dewrell, age 54, of Andalusia passed away Sun., June 19, 2016, at his residence.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tues., June 21, 2016, at Stone Lake Gardens cemetery with Bro. Larry Turman and Bro. Scott Donaldson officiating. The family will received friends Monday in the Keahey Funeral Home chapel.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Dewrell of Andalusia; father, James Wilburn (Mary Sue Davis) Dewrell of Andalusia; son, James Jarrod Dewrell of Corynth, Texas; daughter, Christy (Wesley Wise) Dewrell of Kinston; sister, Debra (Ricky) Hudson of Andalusia; grandchild, Will Douglas Wise of Kinston; father and mother-in-law, Gerald and Shirley Carnley of Opp; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Dennis) Goff of Cullman and Cherri (Mike) Goff of Ramer; brother-in-law, Mark (Melissa) Carnley of Sanger, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Goff, Mark Carnley, Brett Bozeman, Randy Keahey, Christopher Fowler, Joshua Campbell, Adam Hudson, and Kevin Hudson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Dewrell, Stanley Stone, Tom Knowles, Larry Ziglar, Phil Jordan, Scotty Carter, Bill Barefoot, David Dewrell, Jackie Ballard and Otway Grimes.

The family will be accepting flowers or memorial contributions can be made to Gridertown Church of Christ.

 

Robert Oliver Blair

Mr. Robert Oliver Blair, age 62, of Opp, died Sat., June 18, 2016, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

A funeral service for Mr. Blair will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thurs., June 23, 2016, at Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Wise and Bro. Shaun Moore officiating. The graveside service and interment will be 12:40 P.M. Eastern time Fri., June 24, at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Ala.. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wyatt Funeral Home.

Mr. Blair is survived by his wife, Theresa Stinson Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Toby (Tina) Blair, Jody (Tiffiney) Blair; sisters, Debbie Davis and Peggy Grayson; grandchildren, Holt Blair, Lanie Blair, Ryan Blair and Bryson Barfoot. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Taylor Danielle Blair; Parents, Henry and Martha Blair; and brother, Henry Alan Blair.

Eva N. Maloy

Eva N. Maloy, formerly of Andalusia and Auburn, Ala., died Sat., June 18, 2016, in Columbus, Ga., at the Columbus Hospice House. A graveside service will be held at Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery Wed., June 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Foster officiating.

Mrs. Maloy was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Andalusia and lived in Opp, Ala., until high school graduation. She attended the University of Montevallo until she married Jim, her husband for more than 50 years. While in Andalusia, she worked as a social worker, commuted to Troy University earning a master’s degree in education, and taught second and later first grades until retirement. She moved to Auburn in 1993. While there, she participated in different things which included an Auburn University lifelong learning program and volunteering for Hospice and Callaway Gardens. In recent years, she has been a resident of The Gardens at Calvary Assisted Living in Columbus, Ga.

Survivors include a son Sam Maloy and wife Mary of Alpharetta, Ga., and daughter Ann Whittington and husband Jimmy of Waverly Hall, Ga.; six granddaughters, Brooke Chapman of Andalusia, Bridget Steber of Spanish Fort, Ala., Lauren and Paige Hinkley Alpharetta, Ga., Leslie Weaver of North Charleston, S.C., and Paula Watley of Ellerslie, Ga.; and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, if gift making, please make donations to Hospice of East Alabama or Columbus Hospice.
