146th masonic event under way in Florala

Florala residents are in the midst of their 146th consecutive 24th of June celebration, and expect crowds in town this weekend.

Since 1870, Florala has served as the home of the world’s oldest consecutive annual Masonic Day celebration, through Florala’s Fidelity Masonic Lodge #685 and Chapter #441 of the Order of the Eastern Star. The celebration is in honor of St. John’s Day, June 24, 1717, when the first Grand Masonic Lodge in England was established.

A schedule of events follows.

Fri., June 24

5 p.m. – Masonic Meeting Fidelity Lodge #685

5 p.m. – Children’s Chalk Drawing Contest at Simply Chic

5 p.m. – 11 p.m. Carnival on Lake Jackson- at Airplane/Boat Ramp (C&M Southern Midways)

6:30 p.m. MASTAR Building- Crowning of Masonic King & Queen

9 p.m. Street Dance at RJ.. Evans Building- featuring “The Crossroads “

 

Sat., June 25

8:30 a.m. – Masons assemble at Fidelity Lodge #685

8:40 a.m. – Masonic March

9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. – Music on the square

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Arts and crafts at Lake Jackson (sponsored by FHS Band Boosters)

10 a.m. – until – Carnival on Lake Jackson

11 a.m. Parade starts downhill.

1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Children’s Events at Lake Jackson- Near The Pier At Lake Jackson

3 p.m. – Florala Fire Department and Lockhart Volunteer Fire Department Water Battle- on 5th Street

9 p.m. – Fireworks at Lake Jackson

9 p.m. – Street Dance at the R.J. Evans Building featuring “The Riverchase Band”
