The Opp City Council on Tuesday approved alcohol licenses for two businesses.

Fred’s, located at 505 North Main St., Opp requested off premise retail beer and retail table wine licenses.

“This is far enough from churches and schools,” council member TD Morgan said.

The second was a lounge retail liquor license for Jay Jay’s Lounge.

There was discussion at the work session prior to Tuesday’s meeting about tabling this license in order for there to be a petition of District 4 residents.

The lounge is located at the 601 Gavins St., which is the old Hideaway location.

Council member Mary Brundidge said she had spoken to those who live right around the area and they have were OK with the establishment opening.

“The ones I’ve talked to is all for it,” she said.

At the council meeting, owner Jimmy L. Jackson Sr., said he had not complaints so far and the lounge would be for those 30 and up.
