Opp tops Covington County for 19U championship

The Opp 19U Dixie Majors won the 2016 District 6 championship on Wednesday night in Opp with a 10-0 victory over Covington County.

The Opp 19U Dixe Majors dropped Covington County 10-0 in the District 9 championship on Wednesday night in Opp.

“I was extremely proud of the way our pitchers threw tonight,” Opp head coach Zach Spann said. “They got ahead of every batter and just gave us the chance to win.”

Opp broke through with two runs in the opening inning.

In the top of the second inning a two-run single from Eli Johnson put Opp on top 7-0.

Rush Hixon picked up a pair of strikeouts on the mound for Opp in the bottom of the second inning.

Opp added another run in the top of the third off a sacrifice from Reagan Thomas.

Opp’s final run of the contest came on RBI single from in the top of fifth.

“We are starting to play on all cylinders at the right time,” Spann said. “All credit goes to these guys, they came out played extremely well.”

Hixon picked up the win going three innings with six strikeouts and one hit allowed.

Cale Pierce pitched two innings allowing one hit and striking out two batters.

With the win, Opp advances to the state tournament in Ozark on July 14.
