When cancer affected one of their own, members of the Andalusia Police Department’s extended family pitched in to help cover the emotional and financial cost. They’re calling on members of the community to join with them in supporting Charles (Bubba) Bailey by participating in or sponsoring a 5K race on Sept. 10.
Charles (Bubba) Bailey, who retired after 34 years of service with the Andalusia Police Department, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. As treatment expenses mount, he’s relying on the community’s generosity.
Pre-registration is open for the 5K, which will begin and end at Andalusia City Hall. Registration is $30, and those who register before August 1 will receive a free race t-shirt. All proceeds from the event will be put toward Bubba’s medical expenses.
Racers can register online at https://register.chronotrack.com/r/22223 or in person at the Police Department at 107 Opp Avenue in Andalusia.
On race day, registration will open at 7:30 a.m., and the race will begin at 9 a.m.
“We invite racers of all caliber to join us in supporting Bubba’s fight against cancer,” said Allen Scofield, Andalusia Police Department public information officer. “We’ve been humbled by the support this community has already shown through our other fundraising efforts, and we are excited about this opportunity to bring others together and have fun while supporting such a worthwhile cause.”
Scofield also invites businesses, civic organizations and individuals to purchase sponsorships of the event. Those who purchase a $250 gold sponsorship will have their logo printed on the race shirt, and $100 silver sponsors will have their name printed on the shirt. Yard signs to be displayed along the race route can be purchased for $50.
To register or purchase a sponsorship, contact the Andalusia Police Department or ask any officer.
