Will Sconiers has announced his intention to seek reelection to the District 1 seat on the Andalusia City Council.

He said if elected, he believes the next administration’s focus needs to be on jobs.

“We are still doing our best work on bringing more jobs to this area,” he said. “We are proud of the fact the airport is increasing the number of jobs. But still, we want to get more jobs.

Streets will be another priority, he said.

“We want to try to work more on neighborhood streets,” Sconiers said. “We have some in bad need of repair. We’d like to get back to paving on a rotating basis. We are about to get started on some projects and we hope to do much more in the next four years.”

He said community clean-up and abatement of dilapidated housing have made the city look better.

“We have taken down lot of houses, and cleaned up a lot of weeds,” he said. “We will continue that. We’re have so many people who don’t live here say how well Andalusia looks.”

He said he also hopes the city can attract more restaurants.

“We are doing our best to get some to locate here,” he said. “Most major restaurants try to get near interstate areas.”

He noted that Big Mike’s Steakhouse was one of those types of restaurants.

“We also are strong on education,” he said. “I can’t say enough about education. We need to keep supporting our schools, and our college as well. Education is the key to all of our futures. I appreciate the job our educators are doing in the city.”

He said he is pleased that the administration was able to add the Miracle League Playground at Johnson Park.

“We want to constantly build up the city, and make it a better community to live in,” he said.

He said the accomplishment of the current administration of which he is most proud is working to improve South Three Notch Street.
