County All-Stars show fight through rain

The Covington County All-Stars showed heart and determination with a late night victory over Sylacauga.


FLORENCE 6,              CC 0

The first game of the day didn’t go as planned as host team Covington County fell 6-0 to Florence.

Florence held a 2-0 lead late in the game before adding a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 6-0 victory.

Covington County got a one hit from Sanders and Braxton Lee.


CC 5,                            SYLACAUGA 4

Storms rolled into town for the final game of the evening, and the fact that the game didn’t end till an hour after midnight, didn’t stop the Covington County All-Stars for fighting for a 5-4 extra-inning victory over Sylacauga.

A lead off walk in the top of the first led to Sylacauga’s first run of the game.

Covington County got things started in the third inning when Joyner and Mason Turner each reached to start the frame.

A single from Harper drove in Joyner and then a double from Judd Fuqua gave Covington County a 2-1 lead.

Covington County starting pitcher Tucker Livings bared down hard on the mound kept Sylacauga off the scoreboard for the next five innings.

In the top of the seventh, Sylacauga scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead.

Covington County didn’t let that faze them as the responded a pair of runs to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

Covington County held Sylacauga off the scoreboard in the eighth and the ninth innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Joyner ripped a double to start the inning and then came around to score on fielder’s choice off the bat of Turner to give Covington County a 5-4 victory.


TALLASSEE 6,             CC 5

Covington County’s Turner pitched a gem, but they County All-Stars came up short 6-5 to Tallassee on Sunday at LBWCC.

Covington County jumped out front first, and even held a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but four runs from Tallassee in the bottom of the final inning gave them a 6-5 victory.

Turner faced the minimum batters in the first three innings and struck out four.

Turner also picked off the only runner that reached in the first three innings of play.

The loss dropped Covington County to 1-2 on the tournament.
