Opp needs one win to move in state championship

The Opp 13U All-Stars hammered their way though the first three games off the Alabama Babe Ruth State Championship Tournament, and are just one win away from the state title game on Tuesday night at LBWCC.

Opp picked up a pair of wins on Saturday and one win Sunday before severe weather postponed their pool play wrap up game against Covington County.

 

OPP 5,                         SYLACAUGA 4

Opp got things started on Saturday with a walk-off win Sylacauga in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lane Ballard started the bottom of the first inning with a walk before stealing his way around to third.

Ballard later came around to score the first run of the game.

Case Short reached on one-out single in bottom of the third and then came around to score on single from Ballard.

A triple from Kevin Parriera drove in Ballard to put Opp on to 3-0 after three innings of play.

Sylacauga inched back in to the game with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, Sylacauga tacked on two more runs to go on top 4-3.

Brady James got Opp started in the bottom of the seventh inning with a huge double to the outfield.

Two quick outs followed leaving Opp with one out remaining.

Short answered with an RBI double to tie the game 5-5.

Ballard continued his big day with a single that allowed Short to score the walk-off run to give Opp a 5-4 victory.

 

OPP 15,                       TALLASSEE 3

In the second game of the day, Opp came out charging with 10 runs in the opening frame to help give them a 15-3 win over Tallassee.

Opp blew the game wide open in the top of the first inning with 10 runs coming across to score.

Parriera picked up two base hits in the inning and scored a pair of runs.

Ellis reached twice and also scored two runs in the top of the first inning.

After being hit by a pitch, Short stole second and third before coming into score on single from Chandler Pyron.

Parriera came around to score his third run of the contest top of third inning.

Smithart and James also scored in the inning to put Opp on top 14-0.

Opp’s final run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning when Ellis scored after reaching on a one-out single.

Tallassee added one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game going.

After two games, Opp held a 2-0 record.

 

OPP 10,                     FLORENCE 0

Opp’s 13U All-Stars continued their tear through the Alabama state championship tournament with a 10-0 victory over Florence on Sunday at LBWCC.

Ballard drew a walk to start the contest and then moved around to third on a single from Ellis.

Parriera continued his red-hot tournament with a rip through the gap that allowed Ballard to score the first run on the game.

Hayden McCoy kept things rolling for Opp with an RBI single to score Ellis.

Parriera then scored on a heads up play, as the pitcher wheeled in threw to second for a pick off attempt, Parriera darted to plate and scored just ahead of the throw.

Opp went up 4-0 a few batters later when Smithart drove in McCoy with a single.

Opp added a to their lead in the top of the second inning.

Ballard reached on an infield single and then second.

After Parriera reached on a walk, McCoy laced a single through the gap that allowed Ballard and Parriera to score for a 6-0 Opp advantage.

In the top of the third inning, Ballard drew a walk and then scored his third run in as many innings.

Parriera also reached and scored for the third consecutive inning to put Opp on top 9-0.

Parriera’s scoring streak continued when he scored for the  fourth time in as many at-bats in the top of the fifth inning.

Opp scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning and held off Florence of a 10-0 victory.
