Covington County 8U All-Stars finish 3rd at regionals

0625-Lemonade-standThe Covington County 8U softball All-Stars had a strong showing in the 2016 Babe Ruth Softball Southwest Regional tournament in Mountain Home, Ark., and finished the tournament in third place.

“This girls just continue to impress me,” Covington County 8U head coach Heath Williamson said. “The way these girls came up and competed, was very impressive.”

In the warm-up round of the tournament, the Covington County bunch rattled off three straight wins.

The Covington County squad then opened up the double elimination tournament with a 15-5 victory over Mountain Home , but then lost 10-1 to Pampa, Tex.

The loss didn’t bother the squad too much as the turned right around and eliminated Tri-County with a 14-9 victory.

On Saturday, the Covington County All-Stars got the morning started with a 14-10 victory over Pierre Part, La.

The victory over Pierre Part moved Covington County with in one game of the Southwest Championship.

In the semi-finals, however, Pampa jumped out front early and held on to defeat the Covington County All-Stars.

It was the second loss for Covington County and it eliminated them from the tournament.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the way these girls played throughout the whole tournament,” Williamson said. “We went 6-2 while being here in Arkansas. I’m just glad that I was able to coach these girls, they have been a lot of fun to be around.”
