A 35-year resident of Opp has announced his candidacy for Opp City council in District 3.
Michael “Mickey” Denault attended Opp High School and has worked for City Dairy Inc., for more than 20 years supplying the city with dairy products.
He and his wife, Nancy, have been together for more than 25 years.
He has three daughters and six grandchildren.
Many may remember him from being the statistician for the Opp Bobcats.
He also served on the Downtown Redevelop-ment Authority and served as treasurer and had vital roles with Christmas at the Depot and Opp Fest.
Denault said he believes that Opp must get back to compromise and unity for the betterment of the city.
If elected, he wants to hold a monthly meeting with the citizens of District 3 as to where they can discuss concerns and ask questions.
“This will ensure that all questions can be addressed at council meetings,” he said.
Denault also said he plans to stay approachable and connected with the citizens of District 3.
He also said he feels his council decisions will always be what’s best for the working class, seniors and children.
He said he believes that “we must be able to work together regardless of who wins each candidacy.”
“We must be fiscally responsible and explore all options on creating revenue for our once-thriving city,” he said.
He said the city council should explore incentives to attract business.
“Compromise and using level-headed approaches to issues is key to ensuring progress in our city,” he said. “Working together as one and not individually would make significant progress in attracting new business to our great city.”
