Walter “Buster” Boyd has qualified to run for election to the Andalusia City Council District Two.
Boyd is an attorney who recently relocated to Andalusia from the Houston, Texas, area. He is listed as a member of the both the Alabama and Texas Bar Association.
In an announcement sent to The Star-News, Boyd stated he is an “infamous, opinionated provocateur now operating in these parts with a grand mission of instructing the good people here how to think and behave, but with a noble purpose of leading this benighted community into the 21st century.”
Boyd said if elected, he would work to get the probate judge’s office to reinstitute the sales of marriage licenses, even though he acknowledged it was a county, not a city issue. He said the probate judge’s decision to not sell licenses “damages Andalusia’s image as a respecter of the law.”
In his press release, he also described himself as “broke,” and in desperate need of a “not-too-hard job with any salary so he can mitigate the family dole he is on.”
His past civic activities have included community theater.
City elections are Aug. 23.
