It’s not the good deals on small gas savers that have people traveling thousands of miles to Massey Automotive.’

It’s a 707-horsepower muscle car that demanded the attention.

Massey Automotive Sales Director Josh Short said so far they have sold eight of the new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcats.

“You can only order them on two dates a year,” he said. “You can’t special order them, and most of the time you don’t know until two days before when you can.”

Short said he’s been able to secure additional Hellcats through dealer trading.

For example, another dealer may have a Hellcat and Massey may have Jeep Wranglers that the other dealer needs. So, they make the trade.

Short has been able to capitalize and keep the Hellcats coming.

“We are getting and selling them at MSRP,” he said. “I’m not adding anything to it. I’m selling them just like we would a Nissan Versa. I’d rather sell a bunch than just two or three a year.”

That has kept the business coming.

“We’ve had people from Chicago and Oklahoma come and buy them,” he said. “They are buying them because they are $20,000 cheaper.”

Another perk Short said of buying the Hellcat is that buyers are able to get the 707 horsepower, but get the same warranty as a regular Dodge vehicle.

“Warranty sells,” he said. “Mopar is about affordability.”

Mopar is the parts and service organization of Fiat Chrysler.

Massey is one of the elite.

“Sixty percent of the dealers haven’t sold them,” he said.

Short said for those who want horsepower, it’s less expensive than Chevrolet’s Corvette and Lamborghini’s Huracan.

And it’s been dusting both.

“The most expensive one we’ve had was $74,000,” he said. “And that’s not cheap, but it’s outrunning the $100,000 Corvette and the $200,000 Lamborghini.”

Short said he’s had people trade their ‘vettes for the Hellcat.

“I’m stocking them,” he said. “If one leaves, I’ll have another one.”

The Hellcat starts at $64,195 and include a 707-horsepower supercharged 6.2 liter Hemi SRT Hellcat V* engine, 200 mph speedometer, high-flow front fascia, dark satin interior accents, active-valve exhaust, SRT-tuned Bilstein three-mode active suspension, Brembo Six-piston brake system.

Dodge deems it the most powerful muscle car ever.
