Mother’s Day Out looking for kids

Mothers of small children do not have much free time, but the First Baptist Church of Andalusia, has a solution.

Mother’s Day Out is a program offered by the church, in which mothers can drop off their young children beginning Aug. 23, 8 a.m. until noon, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

This is for babies that are sitting through Pre-K.

Coordinator Beverly Farrington said the program averages about 40 children in the program.

She said the program has evolved into more of a preschool setting.

“It’s for mothers to be able to shop, get some housework done and just do whatever they need to,” she said. “It’s also for the children to learn social skills, and we also teach them things like in school. We teach them their ABCs and numbers. We’re preparing them for kindergarten.”

She said they incorporate learning that is age-appropriate.

“For the 3-and-4-year-olds, Margaret Bennett is the teacher and she prepares them for kindergarten,” Farrington said.

Children also learn biblical principles.

“We try to teach them biblical principles, and how the Lord teaches us how to act and treat others. We’re learning Bible verses and doing a little Bible story at least one day a week for the children. We are also singing Christian songs and songs that go along with the units.”

The fee for Tuesdays and Thursdays for a full month is $100 and $50 a month for one day per week.

There is also a nominal supply fee.

Registration is Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Applications forms may be picked up at the church office.
