Members of the Andalusia Isshinryu Karate school took home big honors at the 37th annual Isshinryu Hall of Fame Tournament and Banquet recently in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

The IHOF tournament is the largest Isshinryu tournament in the world.

Three students at Andalusia Isshinryu Karate were selected as finalist for individual awards, and were recognized at the banquet.

Two of the nominated students took home top honors, with Taj Patel winning Young Male Competitor of the Year and Kila Owens winning Young Female Competitor of the Year.

“We are very proud of these students and their outstanding achievements in the past year that led to this recognition,” Andalusia Isshinryu Sensei Mark Rudd said. “They have all worked extremely hard, and have been very successful in the competition this year.”

Andalusia Isshinryu Karate’s dojo also received high honors as it was named Dojo of the Year.

“It’s very humbling to be selected as Dojo of the Year from the many nominations sent in worldwide,” Rudd said. “To win this award is a tribute to every current and past member of our dojo, and the tradition of excellence that has been established over the 21-year history of our school.”

Several members of Andalusia Isshinryu also competed in the tournament and brought back five first place trophies.

Patel placed first in black belt kata, second in weapons and third in fighting.

Dalton Spears finished third in black belt weapons and fourth in kata.

Landon Caldwell pulled off a clean sweep with first place finishes in brown belt weapons, kata and fighting.

Kila Owens took first place in brown belt kata, second place in fighting and third in weapons.

Allen Butler got a third place finish in black belt men’s kata and fourth in weapons.
