Maxine Thomas
Maxine Thomas of Mansfield, Ga., passed away Sat., March 19, 2016, at the age of 92.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Gantt, Ala., but spent most of her life in the Atlanta, Ga., area. She held a bachelor of science degree in chemistry, a master’s degree in education and a juris doctorate degree, but her passion was teaching. She was a lifelong educator, having taught at Agnes Scott College, The Lovett School and Babb Junior High, all in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Mrs. Thomas has been retired for many years and enjoyed taking walks and talking to people she met along the way about God and politics, which made for lively conversations! She lived a very full life and had many happy memories.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Thomas, Sr.; parents, Edward and Bessie Brogden; two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bruce Walker of Mansfield, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Lynn Thomas, Jr. of Seattle, Wa.; and Ralph and Donna Thomas of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Kathleen Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Kara Morgan, Brooke Chic, Preston Davis, Justin Davis, Megan Cannon and spouses; eight great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Baldwin of Andalusia, Mary Sue and Al Brown of Andalusia, and Ettie Jo Gilmer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sat., Aug. 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Foreman Brown Funeral Home, 1516 ML King Jr., Expy, Andalusia, with Dr. Jason Thrower of the Andalusia First United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends are welcome to join the family for visitation one hour prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The family would like to thank Abbey Hospice of Social Circle, Ga., and Riverside Healthcare of Covington, Ga., for the love, care and concern given to Mrs. Thomas and her family while under their care.
