More money will now be pumped into Mizell Memorial Hospital and the Mizell Wellness Center, thanks to money raised at Thursday night’s annual gala.
The event, which was held at Opp’s First Baptist Church, drew a large crowd.
Melinda Hall of the Mizell Foundation said that total contributions were $32,650.
That’s up slightly from 2015, where $32,100 was raised. The event serves as the biggest fundraiser of the year for the foundation.
In years past, the money raised has gone to the Wellness Center, to update radiology equipment, purchase new hospital beds and mattresses.
“At this time, we don’t know how the money will be used, but there’s always a need,” Hall said.
Contemporary group Veritas provided entertainment.
Event-goers were treated to pork chops served by the Opp High School students.
As an added treat, participants enjoyed dinner music from Opp’s own master pianists, Alice and Clarice Rainer.
“It was great,” Hall said. “I’ve heard nothing but positive comments. Veritas was wonderful and I think everyone enjoyed their performance. Attendance was very good and there was lots of good fellowship before, during and after.”
The gala is in its 12th year.
