Military members and veterans took part in South Alabama Regional Airport’s military and veterans appreciation day on Friday.

Free steak dinners were served to the military members all day form the heliport café.

SARA Co-Director Jed Blackwell said that by 3:15 350 people had enjoyed meals at the heliport.

“It’s a little better than last year,” he said. “We’ve had a good mix of locals and those from Ft. Rucker. Ft. Rucker traffic has been heavier.”

Blackwell estimated some 150-175 people had come from the local community.

“From our perspective, it’s our way to give back to those who fought for our country. While we service our active duty on a daily basis, we want to give back to everyone.”
