U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) Monday announced that applications are available for United States service academy nominations. The five service academies are the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Nominations are required for all but the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

“I am proud to have the opportunity to nominate exceptional students from Alabama for admittance into the United States service academies each year,” said Sen. Shelby. “Our nation’s service academies provide outstanding opportunities that will benefit students throughout their military career and instill virtues such as leadership, strength of character, and service.”

Service academy nominees must be residents of Alabama and must complete the required ACT or SAT exam.  Applicants are also required to provide a completed application form, letters of recommendation, and their school transcript.
