School begins in Andalusia City Schools today, and right off the bat, Andalusia Elementary students will have three important lessons in how to lead.
As part of the school’s Leader in Me program, the entire student body will be reviewing the foundations of good behavior this week. They’ll do this by watching videos, which are reinforced with L.E.A.D. reminders throughout the school.
Produced this summer, the short videos feature AES teachers Kayla Gorum, Courtney Owens, and Brittany Whatley in a takeoff on “Charlie’s Angels.” The three women are “Andy’s Angels,” and they get directions via phone from the voice of “Andy,” assistant principal Joseph Caldwell.
The first episode, which will be shared today, focuses on hallway behavior. Andy asks the angels to help address behavior in the hallway. The angels and other teachers first emulate poor behavior, then the video shows students behaving correctly, “the AES way.”
In each area addressed in the videos, there are signs which back up the video. For instance, in the hallways, the signs say:
L – Level Zero (no talking)
E – Everyone
A – All facing forward
D– Down by side (meaning arms)

Lunchroom
On Thursday, the featured video addresses lunchroom behavior. Again, teachers exhibit bad behavior, then students show “the AES way.”
In the lunchroom, the LEAD acronym reminds students:
Level 2 – conversation voice
Everyone in your seat
All areas kept clean
Dismiss orderly and timely.

Gymnasium
On Friday, the video addresses how to behave in the gym. The LEAD acronym reminds students:
Level zero – no talking
Everyone sit on dot
All face forward
Dismiss orderly and timely

A team of teachers wrote the content for the video, and third grade teacher Amber Clark produced them.
